KFC is doing fish and chips for one weekend only to raise cash for a good cause

Is this the most iconic combo of the Kiwi summer so far?

This is not a drill: KFC is launching a world first 'KF&C' Fish and Chippery with Secret Recipe Fish battered in the Colonel's 11 secret herbs and spices.

And yes, the chips will be seasoned with that iconic KFC flavouring.

Now don't shoot the messenger, but this new menu is going to be available for one weekend only, and only at a pop-up at the Mairangi Bay Surf Club in Auckland.

Before you get too mad - it's all a fundraising effort for Surf Life Saving New Zealand, who do super important work keeping beach-goers safe all over the motu.

All proceeds from every sale of KF&C will be donated to the cause - and that includes a special limited edition fish burger, featuring a Secret Recipe battered fish fillet, lettuce and the Colonel's Special Sauce.

The public can get involved on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd and February from 12pm - 7pm - you can only imagine what the queues will be like.

Back in 2023, KFC had people losing their minds over an April Fools prank that promised Kentucky Fish and Chips. It had such a wild response that they decided this would be the perfect opportunity to deliver.

"We challenged ourselves to make it happen for real and bring two Kiwi icons together for a good cause," Clark Wilson, Marketing Director of Restaurant Brands NZ said.

“Fish and chips are a summer staple, and now New Zealanders will be able to tuck into their favourite meal combined with the iconic taste of KFC – all while raising money for Surf Life Saving New Zealand."

Last summer, surf lifeguards clocked up over 240,000 hours watching swimmers, rescuing 893 people and providing over 1,700 with first aid. The service relies heavily on volunteers, so you can only imagine how much training and how many resources are required to make it all happen.

We had to (very hopefully) ask Clark Wilson if there was any chance of KF&C becoming a regular thing in NZ, and the answer was pretty clear: "No, this is a limited-time offering only to help raise funds for KFC's long-standing charity partner, Surf Life Saving NZ."

Well, there you have it. Looks like it's Mairangi Bay or bust next weekend!
