Last week we teased an exciting new competition was coming to The Breeze, and no, it’s not an Easter weekend fishing trip.
It is, in fact, The Breeze’s Live in Las Vegas! We’re sending a couple of lucky Breeze listeners to two incredible concerts - Rod Stewart at Caesars Palace and Coldplay at Allegiant Stadium.
We’ll shout flights for two to Vegas, five nights’ accommodation at the iconic Caesars Palace, and $2500 NZD spending money to enjoy all the glitz and glamour.
Each morning from Tuesday to Thursday last week, we revealed a new set of clues to get our listeners and announcers to figure out what was in the pipeline.
We had some interesting theories from our Breeze announcers on air and our listeners online, so we thought we’d decode every clue and explain how they dealt a winning hand to Vegas!
LIVE IN LAS VEGAS CLUES EXPLAINED
Some listeners took this first clue as a hint for a classic Kiwi weekend away. One comment guessed “Fishing weekend over Easter,” whilst another wrote “Moontide fishing trip.”
Funnily enough, there was a hidden clue within this that we didn’t even think of, with one listener commenting, “Fly me to the moon - Rod Stewart.”
Here’s what we really intended from day one’s clues:
Picture: Fishing Rod - For Rod Stewart.
Word: Moon - For Coldplay’s 2024 studio album called ‘Moon Music’.
Sound: Aeroplane - Indicating listeners would be taking a flight overseas.
For day two’s clue, we started hinting at a location:
Picture: Statue of Julius Caesar - Hinting accommodation at Caesars Palace.
Word: Yellow - One of Coldplay’s biggest songs.
Sound: Bagpipes - This relates to Rod Stewart’s Scottish background.
The picture of the thermometer didn’t deter some listeners from their fishing trip theory, however, it sparked a location change, with one guessing a fishing trip in Iceland whilst another thought it was the Antarctic.
As we narrowed in on the location with the Star Spangled Banner audio, The Breeze Wind Down announcer, Tania Burgess, mistook this for a Christmas carol and found herself truly confused!
Other announcers like Steve & Shelley from The Breeze’s Wellington Breakfast Show thought they had it truly nailed down with a trip to see Coldplay in Hull!
Day three’s clues:
Picture: Thermometer in the cold - cold signifying Coldplay
Word: Kilt - again hinting at Rod Stewart’s Scottish background
Sound: Star Spangled Banner - Travelling to America
As we wrapped up our week of clues, we really honed in on the exact location:
Picture: USD Currency - the money our winner will use in Las Vegas
Word: Chips - a reference to Las Vegas activities
Sound: A clip from the movie ‘The Hangover’ - They were in Caesars Palace at this point in the movie.
