Kiwi teens can now order their own meals on Uber Eats without having to nag you for your account everytime.
The app is giving 14 to 17-year-olds the freedom to order their own meals, but don't worry about loosening the reigns completely just yet.
They won't be able to order an expensive fine dining experience - spending limits, notifications, and delivery tracking features will keep you in the loop.
After proving a hit in the US and Canada since 2022, and expanding to 270 cities worldwide, it's finally our turn.
By the end of March, Eats for teens will be live in all the big spots - Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, Queenstown, Tauranga, Wellington, Palmerston North, Napier-Hastings, New Plymouth, Gisborne, Nelson and Whangarei.
Parents can follow these 3 simple steps to get their teen’s account set up in the Uber Eats app:
Tap Account > Family to create a Family profile.
Tap Invite Family > Teen > Choose contact and select their name from your contacts.
Make sure your payment information is up to date and a spending limit has been set before your teen makes their first order.
Andy Bowie, GM of Uber Eats NZ, say it’s all about finding more convenience in those busy moments.
“Uber Eats for Teens is a simple, safe, and structured way for teenagers to order meals while guardians stay informed and in control,” he says.
Whether it’s a local business getting more orders or a parent or guardian knowing their teen can sort their own snack after school, we’re excited to see how it benefits Kiwis.
And that’s not all - Uber Eats is also expanding into nine new regional towns!
If you’re in Waiuku, Huntly, Motueka, Greymouth, Gore, Matamata, Morrinsville, Thames, or Kerikeri, you’ll soon be able to get your fave local eats delivered to your doorstep.
More towns are said to be joining throughout the year, too.
So as teens get more freedom and more towns can get their orders in - everybody wins (and eats)!
