Nothing says Kiwi feed like a fresh, flaky pie - and now a Waikanae bakery has leveled up their pie with a classic Kiwi pantry staple.
What started as an April Fool’s joke has turned into a legit menu item at Rachelle's Kitchen - a spaghetti stuffed pie.
And people are actually into it! The only divide is between the two spag flavours on offer.
They’ve got a Wattie’s Spaghetti and Cheese Pie and a Wattie’s Spaghetti, Sausage and Cheese Pie.
We all know someone who fished those saussies out of the can, right?
“Some called us crazy, said it was impossible. Others called us innovators, pioneers of the pie industry,” Rachelle's Kitchen said on the first look of the pie on Facebook.
I call it tasty.
And judging by the reactions, plenty of Kiwis agree.
One commenter called it “the dream pie.”
“Holy shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid whack some cheese in that bad boy and im sold ❤️,” another wrote.
A third added: “It’s all about your imagination when it comes to pies.”
In another post, the bakery revealed that customers started actually asking for it, so they figured, why not? And BOOM, the pies became a reality.
People have been pre-ordering them since they dropped on Tuesday, and the bakery is already bracing for more weekend orders.
They’re cheap as too, at just $5 - like a good ol’ pie should be.
Remember NZ’s most expensive pie released by PJ's Pies in Hanmer Springs?
It set people back $50, but was stuffed with top-notch crayfish from Kaikoura.
A premium pie for sure, but sometimes, we’re all just after a bit of a cheap, nostalgic feed and Rachelle's fits the bill.
