When it comes to unflinching honesty, we could all take a leaf out of our Edge Breakfast host Meg's book.
In her first installment of a new monthly column with Capsule, our beloved Meg has stepped into the spotlight to talk about a long overdue conversation: The beauty of the ‘Mum Tum’.
Meg spoke about her piece on air and explained the pressure women experience post-birth, feeling like their bodies must go back to the way it was before giving birth.
“It’s like, when you’re pregnant, everyone tells you how beautiful you look,” Meg explained.
“But after the baby’s out? That love for your body disappears, and the pressure to bounce back is intense.”
Meg didn’t shy away from addressing the harsh reality many women face.
“If I were to go on the beach and wear togs that showed my stomach off, I would get people staring.
I just would, and people would think, it's gross and disgusting that I have wrinkly skin on my stomach.”
She said how it made her "really upset and angry" to feel that way about herself.
"I pride myself on body confidence and accepting myself. And when it comes to my stomach, looking at it now, it's just hate. It's just pure disgust and hate.”
Meg’s frustration doesn’t apply to herself, it affects many more women and mothers experiencing the same issue.
“It just makes me so livid that that's how women's bodies are treated afterwards. And they're not seen as beautiful afterwards.”
Endless support and thank yous flooded Meg's Instagram after sharing her article with her followers, one commenter writing: "What a beautiful read Meg!! 4 years postpartum and still have the daily internal battle about the 'mum tum'. Thank you for sharing."
Another wrote, "Beautifully written, and so important! 👏👏"
With this brave first step, Meg shared a set of photos at the end of her column, describing it as "'the scariest thing I've done in 10 years in my career, and I find that so sad"
Nothing short of inspiring, we’re already waiting eagerly & excitedly for the next column.
