Apple's new iPhone emojis are... interesting - here's the ones we really want

Who's in charge?!

Apple users everywhere have a bone to pick with the company after their latest emoji drop.

Earlier this week, Apple rolled out its latest batch of emojis in the second iOS 18.4 beta update - and let’s just say, people have thoughts.

This update adds eight new emojis to the iOS keyboard, including a fingerprint, purple splatter, radish, leafless tree, harp, Isle of Sark flag, shovel, and a face with bags under the eyes (a little too relatable, tbh).

These fresh additions come straight from Unicode’s September 2024 list - aka the official emoji peeps who do the recommendations and coding for the little icons.

Now, we love a new emoji moment, but let’s be real - how many of these are we actually gonna use?

“Who’s the guy deciding which emoji is released???” One person asked on X.

“What even is that? 😂,” someone asked about the purple splodge.

“Name one situation where we need purple paint emoji,” said another.

A third agreed about all the others: “When are we ever going to use these I'm so serious the fucking harp?? the fingerprint?? radish??? what?????”

Someone else reckons: “They don't even care anymore.”

And instead of just roasting the new lineup, Apple users are begging for the emojis we actually want.

“WE NEED A SIDE EYE EMOJI PLEASE PLEASE,” one suggested, and we back it!

“Give me pinky promise,” said another.

“We need a nail-biting nervous face emoji,” suggested a third.

I even asked around the office, and the wishlist was long.

One person reckons: “A bunnings sausage because the hot dog is not true to us.”

And to fit the NZ theme, another requested a Kiwi emoji.

An ‘I’ve got my eye on you’ and ‘talk to the hand’ emojis were up there with some of the fave ones my co-workers have seen floating around online.

Oh, and Lisa from the office made sure to remind us that we STILL don’t have a robber or sea horse emoji. Make it make sense.

Honestly, we could be here for hours, and I’ve already fallen down the rabbit hole of seeing all the creative - and oddly, too relatable - edits from the internet.

Seriously, who do we need to talk to to get on the creative team? 'cause we’ve got some things to say.
