'Married At First Sight Australia' groom Dave Hand might not be the guy we’ve been watching on TV - at least, according to sources who knew about his previous relationship.
He’s been dubbed the BFG (Big Friendly Giant) for his huge stature and easygoing personality, but could this new info flip the script?
Stephanie Jaksch was reportedly in a relationship with Dave for three-and-a-half years and got engaged to him in late 2022.
The two allegedly called it quits just a year later, and not long after, Dave was apparently already looking for reality TV opportunities.
“They split, and as we all found out, he went straight on to apply for reality TV!” a source close to Stephanie told Woman’s Day.
“Applications for 'FBoy Island' Australia closed around the time of their split in November 2023.”
Despite allegedly applying, Dave didn’t make the cut for the show, but production company Endemol Shine Australia saw potential and reportedly offered him a spot on this season of 'MAFS' instead.
By the time weddings and promo shoots for the 2025 season rolled out, the two had moved on - clearly for Dave, at least.
“The advertising started, and the grooms were revealed – that’s when Steph found out,” the friend added. “No one wants to hear that their ex-fiancé is getting married, let alone have that happen on national TV."
But it’s Dave’s ‘good guy’ persona that’s caused a bit of confusion.
The source claims that Dave’s lack of commitment to a serious relationship was the reason for his split.
So, it’s a bit of a head-scratcher that he’d sign up for a show where he gets MARRIED just months after calling off his engagement.
Despite the unexpected d-r-a-m-a, the source says Steph isn’t looking to get involved herself or stir the pot.
"[She's] done with anything to do with Dave or MAFS.”
At the end of the day, there’s always three sides to a story, so until we hear any info direct from the mouths of Steph or Dave, we might need to take this one with a hefty grain of salt.
