Pssst… some keen-eyed Macca’s snackers have spotted a secret menu item popping up at restaurants around the country.
McWings are the latest hot feed to hit NZ - but they're not here to stay just yet.
At select stores scattered around the motu, McDonald's is trialling new three-piece packs of chicken wings covered in a crispy coating with spices.
The McWings have already been hyped up overseas, thanks to their crunch and peppery flavour, but now it seems there's potential for it to flock into our stores.
TikToker Seresa was one of the first to spot them, sharing her wing experience at her local Macca's.
Naturally, the comment section is full of excitement and a few taste testers with their hot takes.
One person wrote: “OMG the crisp!”
“They were so good! Wish they had a spicy option though," said another - Macca’s, take notes!
A third added: “That with Big Mac sauce would be on 🔥."
While they're in testing, Macca's has a few things to keep in mind before deciding to bring the McWings as a permanent addition. It's all the behind-the-scenes stuff like kitchen capacity, prep times, and, of course, whether Kiwis are into it.
Spoiler: We so are!
These spots around the country have been spotted serving the secret chook:
Auckland: Ōtara, Karaka, Greenlane, Albany
Christchurch: Merivale, Riccarton
Dunedin: Anderson’s Bay
Tauranga
Gisborne
Nelson
Richmond
Rotorua
Hamilton
But a heads up - once they’re gone, there’s no telling when or IF they’ll be back.
Our insider at Macca’s says we’ll be one of the first to know if the wings make a comeback, so we'll let you know ASAP... right after we've grabbed some ourselves - nom, nom, nom!
