Fans of Netflix’s 'Bridgerton' spent hours perfecting their hair, makeup, and slipping into their best gowns, only to discover the themed ball they were promised was a total flop.
The event held in Detroit on Sunday had guests forking out $150 USD ($243 NZD) and $1,400 USD ($2,235 NZD) for what was advertised as a “splendid soirée.”
What guests got? A severely under-decorated, under-catered and all round cheap-looking event with a solo violinist and a pole dancer in a g-string as entertainment.
The dancer herself even referred to the event as a "horror story" before the organisers addressed their disastrous event.
What went wrong with Detroit’s Bridgerton Ball?
“They didn’t even have an actual grass wall,” one TikToker pointed out, showing an image of people standing in front of a screen of printed grass.
The video shows women sitting on the floor in ballgowns scrolling through their phones.
Guests were promised appetizers, a bar, and a sit-down dinner. Instead, they were served an $18 "bitter" lemonade with a mint candy dropped in, NO appetizers, and a meal people described as “raw” chicken.
Some guests even said they had to go elsewhere to get a meal after leaving the event early.
“The outfit I wasted at the Scamington event in Detroit,” wrote another guest alongside a video showing off her ball gown and hand made wig.
“Uncle&Me LLC can count their days. They played tf out of all the beautiful guests that attended,” she added
Pole Dancer speaks out about Bridgerton Ball
Many guests were gob smacked to find out that the event planner had arranged a pole dancer as entertainment.
“I don’t remember this in ‘Bridgerton’ LMAOO💀,” said one user on X.
Another said: “This is the point I got to when I spat out my drink. Queen Charlotte would never!”
The dancer named Tink has since tried to set the record straight, explaining she was only hired three hours before the event kicked off.
“This is truly a horror story and I’m just completely awestruck seeing everything that happened,” Tink told WXYZ Detroit.
“Normally it’s not like that. Normally when you go to a show, especially a circus performer, it’s an amazing experience…I’m sad they didn’t get to experience that.”
Tink also claimed the organisers had selected and approved her outfit for the event, which consisted of a red bra and matching g-string.
Bridgerton Ball organisers apologise
Organisers Uncle& Me and event planner Chelsea Beard had advertised it as “an enchanting evening of elegance and charm,” promising an “unforgettable night.”
And that it was… for all the wrong reasons!
After copping so much heat for their now-dubbed "Scamington" event, Uncle & Me have issued an apology to fans.
“We understand that not everyone had the experience they hoped for at our most recent event Sunday night at The Harmonie Club, and for that, we sincerely apologise,” they said in a statement to WXYZ Detroit.
“We take full responsibility and accountability for these shortcomings. Please know that we are working diligently to address all concerns to ensure that all guests have the enjoyable experience they deserve.”
Honestly, I’m not sure what’s worse, this shambles, the viral Glagow Willy Wonka disaster or the lackluster Las Vegas Bluey event that left kids in tears earlier this year.
