From TV villain to TikTok hero: How Spencer Pratt's LA fire devastation redeemed his reputation

I never thought I'd be saying this in 2025.

2000s bad boy Spencer Pratt has been making headlines lately and to most of our surprise, has been dubbed the “greatest hubby on TikTok” amid the LA fires.

So what changed from all of us rooting for his downfall 15 years ago, to now being his personal cheerleaders?

If you grew up in the early 2000s, you were most likely exposed to a wee show called ‘The Hills’. It was the show of the decade and in comparison let's just say: Spencer Pratt walked so that Scott Disick could run.

Throughout the 2000s Spencer Pratt made it his LA mission to play the ultimate bad boy, terrorizing LC, Audrina, and even his sister! But it was his hookup and quick marriage to Heidi Montag that catapulted his mission to become MTV’s bad boy, and ultimately becoming the most hated man in the 2000s to us millennials.

With that being said, there is no way that I thought in 2025 I would witness all of us collectively rooting for him and Heidi (yeah, they’re still together, we were all wrong about that one) after their house and all their possessions burnt down during the devastating LA Wild Fires a few weeks ago.

From his TikTok blowing up every day with a trajectory of views between 100K and 500K views each time he posts, gaining over 1M followers in just over a week, alongside a gofundme page that has taken off, let’s dive deeper into how this all happened, shall we?

Spencer took to social media as soon as the LA fires started, filming the fires himself and reporting live from the scene most days. He was very open about what was happening around them, and reporting on things that the mainstream media wasn’t, which very soon became viral.

Pratt soon became the voice of the people and worked endlessly to inform his followers and be one of the most prominent voices during the fires, and for some reason we all loved it.

Before the fires, Spencer was notoriously known as the internet troll that unapologetically called out the bullshit of Hollywood, including calling out big names and corporations.

So not only was he being unrepentantly transparent about the fires themselves, but he was also working OVERTIME promoting Heidi’s pop hit ‘I’ll Do It’ (which has now been remixed four times by various DJs around the world, and a music video was released 7 days ago) all to help his family make some money to replenish what they had lost.

Yeah. She made music guys, a whole pop album, and it’s not THAT bad! It’s your typical popstar music, but it’s low-key catchy AF!

Spencer’s continuous promotion, endless TikTok lives, and uploading at LEAST eight videos on TikTok a day, possibly more, seems to be finally paying off.

Not only are they doing interviews, but celebrities are sharing and reposting videos with Heidi’s song, shooting it to number one on Apple Music and going PLATINUM within a week! THAT’S ACTUALLY CRAZY!!

What’s been the coolest thing to come out of this, is watching all their old co-stars from ‘The Hills’ coming out of the woodwork to support them. Brody Jenner, Audrina Patridge, Whitney Port, and even Lo Bosworth are some of the cast mates who have posted on TikTok supporting the two people that they once DESPISED.

The internet is still waiting for Lauren Conrad to post something, but we may be holding our breath for too long for that one.

As someone who HATED Spencer, maturing is realising that this man just loves his wife and kids - and in his own words: “doing my part in all this and helping promote music that was never heard.”

Spencer has repeatedly stated that ‘The Hills’ was a scripted show (low-key, this one hurt, but also… DUH), and seeing him debunk most of the iconic scenes or scenarios has become some of my favorite moments of TikTok in the last year, and many of you feel the same.

All you have to do is go to any of his videos and see the outpour of love for him and Heidi.

Next time you find yourself hating that bad boy or mean girl on reality TV, just keep in mind that in 15 years, you could be streaming their music.
