In what is possibly the most beautiful cover we’ve heard all year, young Māori TikTok star Latiyah has wowed us with a heartfelt 'Pocahontas' waiata.
During the 2025 Turangawaewae Regatta in Ngaruawahia, Latiyah sang Judy Kuhn’s 'Colours of the Wind' from the Disney movie.
Posted to TikTok by her mum, Latasha Takimoana, the clip has gone viral, racking up a solid 1.5 million views and thousands of comments praising Latiyah’s voice and the song’s message.
“As an Indigenous woman, this song always does it for me 😭,” one commenter wrote.
“The voice is beautiful, but the message has power and mana ✊🏻👏🏻🫶🏻😍🥰,” said another.
A third added: “I have always cried when I hear this song since I was a little girl watching 'Pocahontas'. It has such a DEEP meaning. She did a fantastic job. So beautiful. So touching. 🥹💗”
Another person praised Latiyah, writing: “Your singing brings calm and happiness to my heart and soul.”
“Bye, I cried as soon as she finished the first 10 words,” wrote another.
It’s not the first time Latiyah has stunned with her beautiful voice. She first went viral in 2023, performing a waiata in her PJs while her dad strummed the guitar behind her.
That video now sits at an incredible 14.5 million views.
Since then, she’s become a strong young advocate for tamariki and rangatahi, proudly representing her Māori heritage online and at cultural events around Aotearoa, including the recent Te Matatini kapa haka competition.
She’s definitely a star - and an inspiring role model for young Māori to look up to.
