Laneway 2025: Charli XCX shouts out Lorde, fan slays the 'Apple' dance and security goes viral

FOMO alert!

Laneway popped off yesterday, with Djo and the Brat herself, Charli XCX, absolutely smashing their sets.

But let’s be real—the real show was in the crowd. From Charli vibing in the mosh and Djo snagging a fan’s sunnies to security straight-up stealing the spotlight, the festie served up some of the most iconic and wholesome interactions.

Here’s everything that went down in the Laneway crowd:

‘Apple’ dance perfection

We have to start with the absolute kween who literally ate up the ‘Apple’ dance on the barricade during Charli’s set.

In case you didn’t already know, the viral dance kicked off on TikTok and has now become a staple at every Charli show, where one lucky Brat gets their moment on the big screen.

“Auckland, you slayed the Apple dance tbh!” Laneway captioned their video.

The girl behind the moment, Caitlin, popped up in the comments to reveal herself, writing: “That’s me💁‍♀️😛😛.”

Other commenters were quick to hype her up, calling her “ICONIC” - and there’s no argument there.

Djo takes sunglasses from the crowd

Another lucky fan had their main character moment during Djo’s set.

Alex shared a TikTok calling it the “best day of [her] life.”

“Joe [Keery] just casually wore my glasses for my favourite song in the world,” she captioned her video of her sunnies being handed back.

Other fans captured the moment as he grabbed her sunnies before playing his hit song ‘End of Beginning’.

And damn, did he look good in them.

Charli XCX spotted in the mosh

While Djo was interacting with the crowd, Charli XCX was seen in it. One fan shared a clip of Charli casually watching Clairo perform just metres away.

Breathing quite literally the same air as Charli would send me into oblivion!

Charli dedicates ‘Girl, So Confusing’ to Lorde

Once she hit the stage, Charli dedicated her hit 'Girl, So Confusing' to our Kiwi queen, Lorde.

“I love you, Ella,” she said before launching into the track.

Her shoutout prompted fans in the crowd to think there was going to be a surprise appearance or that Lorde was in the crowd, but no sightings were reported.

A shame, really. That would have been truly ICONIC!

“I was half expecting Lorde to come out,” one fan wrote. ICYMI - Charli brought Lorde onto the remixed version of the song after fans speculated that the OG track was about Charli's being unsure of where she stood with Lorde - since they were constantly compared for their similar looks.

Security steals the show at Laneway

It wasn’t just the headline acts being the star of the show, one security guard stole the spotlight with some sweet moves.

With the sun still beaming and vibes ON, you couldn’t miss him in his green hi-vis cutting some shapes.

A group of girls noticed and went to hype up the diva, himeself. There’s always a perk of the job, right?

Laneway looked unreal, and anyone who had FOMO will definitely be eyeing up tickets for next year.
