Whittaker's make an "error" releasing limited edition chocolate in Australia

Santa was not quite secret enough with this limited edition chocolate!

Put the tree up and call us done for the year - because Whittaker's have accidentally released their new Christmas chocolate flavour across the ditch!

An Australian shopper spotted the Kiwi company's new 'Candy Cane' flavour on the shelves in a Perth supermarket. It was also found in the listings for Coles Supermarket's online shopping website.

A spokesperson for the Porirua-based chocolate company told Stuff its Aussie release was an "error."

"Last year we released a limited-edition Gingerbread Block to celebrate the festive season, and we admit we have created another delicious limited-edition festive treat this year for Whittaker's chocolate lovers in NZ and Australia."

"We have to work within specific time windows for supermarket distribution in both countries, which means unfortunately there's always a risk that news about a new product leaks before the planned launch.

"While we had planned to keep this under wraps until closer to Christmas, and it's not yet possible to buy our new festive treat in-store or online in either country – even if it is listed online already, it's great to know chocolate lovers on both sides of the Tasman are already getting excited."

The packaging on the wrapper describes the limited edition flavour as 'peppermint candy cane pieces in 33% cocoa creamy milk chocolate', which sounds like a Christmas dream.

The Whittaker's Candy Cane flavour is yet to have a New Zealand release date in supermarkets, but I've already planned to buy ten blocks as gifts for the distant cousins I see over the silly season...
