‘Wellington, you are so weird’: Hundreds gather to watch Kiwi man fold a fitted sheet

One man and 700 Wellingtonians gathered to see if the impossible could be achieved.

Wellington has once again reminded us why it's the unofficial funkiest city in New Zealand.

It all started when signs started popping up around the capital, reading, ‘Come and watch me fold a fitted sheet on my own.’

Explaining to meet ‘Outside the Taco Bell on Cuba Street’ with a date and time, it quickly gained traction on social media - so much so that someone even created an Instagram page for it.

While details were slim - no name, no context, and no promise it would even happen - that didn’t stop curious Wellingtonians from turning up.

Walking out to the crowd with a fitted sheet over his head, Kiwi comedian Dan Boerman revealed himself as the man behind it all, stating, "Wellington, you are so weird."

In front of 700 people, Boerman successfully folded the fitted sheet, announcing, "We have achieved the impossible."

He then invited two people from the crowd to also have a go - thankfully, they succeeded.

So, what was it all for?

It turns out, it was a slightly weird yet genius marketing stunt to promote Boerman’s upcoming Australia and New Zealand comedy tour.

"You can chuck some money on Instagram or whatever, but I know that Wellington is a city that seems to respond well to random pop-up events."

With the success of the event in Wellington, surely he can bring it to other cities and towns around New Zealand.

Boerman is now set to tour Melbourne, Dunedin, Christchurch, and Kāpiti before returning to Wellington for a show at the Fringe Bar.
