We're getting more Happy Gilmore in 2025!
Netflix officially announced in May that Adam Sandler's 1996 sports comedy 'Happy Gilmore' is all set for a sequel - of course with Sandler himself set to return as the titular character.
It's been nearly 30 years since the film was released, which saw Sandler's character, an angry unsuccessful ice-hockey player, enter a golfing tournament to save his grandmother's house. Sandler's character, Happy Gilmore, ends up facing off against the arrogant pro-golder Shooter McGavin, played by Christopher McDonald.
In December, Sandler told The Dan Patrick Show an unofficial release date for the sequel, saying "we’re trying to get it done in time for July."
Plus, Sandler also confirmed rapper Eminem will appear in the film.
“I’ve known Eminem for a long time and he’s a great guy,” Sandler said. “He came in and was funny as hell. I think we hung out a day with Eminem, and we just shot and shot, and it was insane. Said a million things we can use and a million things we’re glad we have on tape.”
Before the confirmation of the film, rumours had been swirling for a while, with McDonald really ramping up the rumours in early 2024.
In an interview with Cleveland radio's Ken Carman Show, he said: "I saw Adam about two weeks ago, and he says to me, 'McDonald, you're gonna love this,'
"I said, 'What?' He says, 'How about that,' and he shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2 and I thought, 'Well, that would be awesome.' So it's in the works. Fans demand it, damn it!"
How good - we're keen to sink our teeth into this one when it comes out.
