MOVIE REVIEW: ‘Babygirl’ altered my brain chemistry in the smuttiest way possible

You’ll never look at a glass of milk the same way.

I’ll start this review with a firm warning; DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE WITH YOUR PARENTS. I don’t care how much your Mum loves Nicole Kidman, this is one you should probably watch without them.

‘Babygirl’ has already caused a wild stir worldwide as it’s based on a CEO (Nicole Kidman) who starts an affair with a MUCH younger intern (Harris Dickinson). The topic is super taboo as there isn’t a lot of ‘cougar’ representation in TV & Film.

We’re so used to large age gap relationships that feature an older man and a younger woman that the other way around feels jarring due to gender stereotypes. This film obliterates those perceptions as director Halina Reijn leaves NOTHING to the imagination.

‘Babygirl’ explores desire, passion, kinks, and most importantly the female orgasm (something that’s also not represented enough in film or our sex lives *cough cough*). It had me feeling shy, embarrassed, and intrigued all at once.

I can’t think of any other movie that had me blushing and kicking my feet like this. You feel like you’re a part of their affair and you’re also hiding their secret.

Nicole Kidman’s character Romy is the ultimate girlboss. She runs a tech company in New York, and has a hot Spanish husband (played by Antonio Banderas) and two daughters. Her life seems perfect…until the cracks start to appear and her inner sexual fantasies transform into a reality.

Homegirl risks it all to shack up with Harris Dickson, and I couldn’t really blame her tbh.

Some highlights? The rave scene. I never expected to see Nicole Kidman headbanging in a nightclub after drinking molly water and making out with a girl. When I tell you this movie has EVERYTHING, I mean it.

I never thought a movie about a workplace affair could feel so wrong yet so right at the same time. Through all the smut and the sex, there are moments of tenderness that will catch you off-guard, and both Harris and Nicole put on some incredible performances.

Best method of watching? Probably alone in a dark room without any loved ones nearby.
