'Shrek 5' teaser dropped with a new cast member and animation that has fans fuming

We have so many questions.

The very first teaser has dropped for 'Shrek 5', and it's caused a mix of excitement and concern among longtime fans.

The short clip confirms the return of the original cast while introducing a new character - Shrek and Fiona’s daughter, Felicia - voiced by long-time fan Zendaya.

The teaser shows Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey standing in front of the Magic Mirror, asking: "Magic Mirror, who is the fairest of them all?" with the mirror responding, "Why, Shrek, of course," before showing a couple of clips of Shrek in the style of TikTok.

Shrek and Donkey look shocked before a new female ogre pops into the frame to say, "Ew, Dad."

One of the many details that caught fans' attention was the inclusion of only one of Shrek and Fiona's kids, as they had triplets in 'Shrek the Third'.

One fan commented: "Didn’t they have triplets?"

But the biggest shock? The animation style has undergone a dramatic change.

This time, the visuals appear more photorealistic, moving with the trends of modern animated films; however, fans aren’t happy.

Many took to the comments to voice their frustration: "As a longtime fan who has made many Shrek art pieces in her life, I beg you to bring back the old design."

"I'm begging you to fix the animation," another added.

Comparing the original Shrek to his new design, fans have pointed out that his face appears rounder, with more pronounced wrinkles, bolder eyebrows, and a murkier green colour.

The full movie won’t be released until 23 December 2026, so as an OG fan myself, here’s hoping they slightly adjust the animation to resemble the Shrek we know and love.
