Wholesome Māori dad learns Zoom to join Te Reo classes with his daughter

He's making us laugh and cry at the same time.

Māori social media star Julia Rangiheuea has shared a wholesome clip of her dad learning how to use Zoom so he can enrol in te reo Māori classes online.

“My Māori dad was too whakamā to learn te reo Māori online. At 67, he struggles with technology, which stops him from even trying,” Julia explained.

Determined to help, Julia took it upon herself to teach him how to use the video call app Zoom so he’d feel confident enrolling in classes with her next semester.

He’s clearly motivated, too - writing down every step and even including drawings of each button as reminders in case he gets stuck.

The joy he feels when they finally get the camera working is enough to make your heart melt. His smile is absolutely infectious.

It turns out the video was taken a few months ago. “Happy to say he is enrolled and absolutely LOVES his class,” Julia updated in the comments.

“The mute button is still a work in progress but we’re getting there 😅.”

The comments flooded with tautoko and aroha for Julia’s dad.

“This is so wholesome 🥹. Patua te taniwha pakeke mā ❤️🖤🤍,” said one commenter.

Another added: “Absolute fave internet dad! More more more! Makes me laugh and cry! We all have a dad or pāpā or uncle just like this, bless him!”

“I could watch his laugh over and over but then I wouldn't stop crying,” wrote a third. “So adorable ❤️.”

Julia seemingly shared the video following the recent Hīkoi mō te Tiriti.

“The best protest right now is to be Māori. Be who we are, live our values, speak our reo, care for our mokopuna, our awa, our maunga, just be Māori,” Julia wrote alongside her post.

“Māori all day, every day. We are here, we are strong.”
