The whitebait season is almost done and dusted for another year, generally running from the 1st of September to the 30th of October.
Keen whitebaiter and owner of Davo's Fishing, Hunting & Sport store, Richard 'Davo' Davidson, chats to Dom about his concerns over the Department of Conservation's decision to shorten the season in 2022.
He explains how this reduced timeframe has led to increased competition, price hikes, and a feeling of exclusion due to customary fishing rights in November.
Despite these challenges, the community continues to cherish the joys of whitebaiting, though Davidson notes, "It's dog-eat-dog on the river."
