Revitalising A Local Gem: Waipiata Country Hotel's Story

"Don't go changing too many things without the locals knowing about it," Button says.

Nestled on the Central Otago Rail Trail, the Waipiata Country Hotel is a testament to community spirit and culinary innovation.

Since Mark Button and his wife took over in 2015, they've transformed this historic spot into a beloved destination.

Button raves about the hotel's menu, boasting local delights such as blue cod and lamb, highlighting its commitment to using local produce.

He says the community's involvement is key, with locals consulted on changes to preserve the hotel's charm.

Button explains that the hotel also acts as a community hub, welcoming travellers from around the world and offering a slice of Otago's rich history.
