Have you added views to TikTok's most-watched video without even knowing?

A new video has taken the crown.

There’s a new record for the most-watched TikTok video of all time – and you might’ve watched it without even realising.

In the latest instalment of 'what’s wrong with the internet', a blank black screen has taken the crown.

Yup, a 10-second video of nothing but a black screen has racked up a whopping – and low-key very concerning – 3.6 BILLION views.

The video, posted by TikToker Lasi back in June 2023, has gone viral several times, including most recently this month.

Okay, if I’m being totally honest, last week I did fall asleep and wake up SEVEN hours later with the same TikTok video playing on loop – you’re welcome, whoever’s video that was. So I get the whole accidental contribution to the view count.

But - and it’s a big one - how the HECK do we all collectively justify watching a black screen for that long?

To put it in perspective, if one person were to watch it 3.6 billion times, that’s over 1,140 years straight.

If that doesn’t prove the ‘what’s wrong with the internet’ point, I don’t know what does.

Though, you might not have even realised you contributed to its success. Thanks to TikTok’s auto-loop function, you might’ve come across the video, waited for something to happen, then moved on with your doom scroll.

Despite over 3 billion views, the clip has only 1.1 million likes – leading to speculation many people watched it multiple times without knowing.

The last video to hold the title was Zach King’s famous 'Magic Ride Illusion', which sat at the top for nearly six years with 2.3 billion views.

That’s one you’re more likely to remember.

Is it wrong that I now want to see how long I can watch the blank screen and add to its views? Okay, no! That’s enough internet for me today.
