Welcome BACK to Mr G’s room - Chris Lilley has revealed that his ‘Summer Heights High’ character is set to return.
The Aussie comedian behind the series confirmed the comeback on in an Instagram video of him with his polished shoes, neat tie and, of course, the iconic pink yoga ball from his drama class.
“Mr G is back,” the text on the screen read at the end of the clip. Enough said.
Honestly, the news might be as good as hearing "Ecstasy. Ecstasy. E. E. E. E. Ecstasy”, for the first time.
While it’s still unclear whether we’ll see Mr G return on TV or in another format, fans are already hyping up his comeback.
One fan wrote: “Don’t play with me or you’ll get a smack.”
“NOICE! It better be his musical this year, and not reduced to just choreography. Like some simpleton,” said another.
A third added: “Screaming, crying, shaking, throwing up!”
Other fans reckon the return might be in the form of a podcast.
“Podcast or show?!? :),” someone asked.
“Mr G the podcast, omfg,” another wrote on X.
It’s not NOT a possibility, either. Back in 2019, Lilley answered on Reddit that he would happily bring back Mr G for his own series, saying: “Yeah probs. They’ll all come back eventually.”
He has since launched podcasts featuring characters Jana Melhoopen-Jonks and Ja’mie King.
But the real question is 'will Celine be returning?' She was on her last legs when we last saw her.
As legendary as Lilley’s shows have been in terms of popularity, his comedic style and character portrayals have been heavily questioned in the past.
Netflix pulled several of his shows from the platform in New Zealand and Australia back in 2020.
The decision came amid controversy about his past portrayal of characters’ cultural appropriation.
As for whether his comeback will be available in New Zealand, we’ll have to wait and see.
Based on the reaction, though, there are plenty of fans with their fingers - and twinkle toes - crossed that they’ll be welcoming back Mr G’s magical world of drama!
