Lee Mvtthews, MOKOTRON and CHAII among Aotearoa Music Awards finalists

“Recognising the rich legacy and evolving sound of Aotearoa’s music story.”

It’s rolled around once again - the finalists for the Aotearoa Music Awards 2025 have dropped!

This year marks the 60th milestone of the awards, wrapping up NZ Music Month in style.

With a plethora of HUUUGE talent in the mix, George FM is stoked to see a few of our favourites making the finalists list.

One of NZ’s top drum and bass acts Lee Mvtthews came in hot with their nomination for ‘Best Electronic Artist’. Their 2024 album ‘EXIT’ earned them a well-deserved spot on the list.

The lads aren't new to the Aotearoa Music Awards - they took out the same category in 2020 with their 2019 album ‘Bones’.

Also making multiple features is the incredibly talented MOKOTRON. Repping hard for the Māori electronic bass scene, MOKOTRON is up for a whopping three awards - ‘Album of the Year’, ‘Best Solo Artist’ and ‘Best Electronic Artist’.

The album ‘WAEREA’ gave a voice to Māori with its release coinciding with the hīkoi against the Treaty Principles Bill and Boiler Room Aotearoa.

With his 2024 Album making a big impression in this year's awards, it’s safe to say MOKOTRON is a major asset to the Aotearoa electronic music scene.

Also tapping into multiple categories is CHAII, securing nominations for five huge awards including ‘Album of the Year’, ‘Single of the Year’, ‘Best Electronic Artist’, ‘Best Music Video Content’ and ‘Best Producer’.

She’s an artist truly making waves in the industry.

Special mention goes out to Theia for being a finalist for ‘Single of the Year’ with her tune ‘BALDH3AD!’.

This year’s awards will be held on the 29th of May at the Viaduct Events Centre in Tāmaki Makaurau.  It’s a tough competition between these lot and all of the other incredible nominees around the motu - The George whānau are rooting for you all!
