Stan Walker offers reward for bag of 'priceless' taonga that went missing backstage

“This means more to me than anything.”

Stan Walker has just wrapped up performing at the massive Promiseland festival in Australia. But instead of celebrating an incredible performance, he’s been left upset by a potential theft.

In a video reshared on Facebook by a fan, Hux Lee, Stan explains that during the festival, a large green bag full of his clothes and all of his and his family’s taonga Māori went missing backstage.

“Gosh, I don’t even know how to address this, but all my necklaces, rings that are priceless, some that are hundreds of years old [are gone],” he shared.

Stan put out a call to fans, asking anyone who might know the whereabouts of the bag to reach out to him.

“It’s not just my stuff, it’s also my wife’s and my kids’,” he added about the precious whale bone and green stone ponamu.

This means more to me than anything.

In a follow-up video posted yesterday on his Instagram Stories, Stan provided an update, explaining that after three days, there was still no sign of the missing bag.

“I’m not going to assume that it’s been taken, we’re still on the lookout, being hopeful and just praying that they will come home to me.”

These are not items that you can re-sell or anything - you’ll get in trouble.

Fans in Hux Lee’s comment section expressed their hope for Stan’s taonga to be returned.

One person wrote: “I hope it's not stolen and just a case of mistaken property removed... Praying your taonga is returned asap 🙏😔💖.”

“Taonga always find their way home,” another said.

A third suggested: “Put some pics up so that if they try to sell them, people will know they belong to you.”

“Your tupuna will guide them back to you,” a fourth added. “That’s tapu for whoever has them.”

Stan responded to everyone’s outpour of positivity, believing they will be found.

“Thank you to everybody who has been putting out the message, I appreciate you all," he said on his Instagram Stories.

Here’s hoping a positive update comes in the next few days - we’re all keeping an eye out!
