Uenuku, FOUR32

Four32 honours Māori heritage with "Uenuku", a powerful reo Māori waiata inspired by Kīngi Tāwhiao’s karakia and the connection between the physical and spiritual worlds.

Four32, a dynamic rangatahi Māori band, has released their first full reo Māori waiata, "Uenuku". This track draws inspiration from a karakia by Kiingi Tāwhiao, the second Māori King, and delves into the profound connection between our world and the spirit realm. It emphasizes the importance of being grounded and enveloped by the wairua (spirit) of our tupuna (ancestors).

Produced by Israel Starr and recorded at Taupiri Sound in Waikato, "Uenuku" was crafted in November 2024, shortly after the passing of the beloved Kiingi Tuheitia. The waiata also pays homage to Te Arikinui Kuīni Ngā Wai Hono i te Po and the Kīngitanga movement, reflecting the band's deep-rooted cultural heritage.
