On March 1st the 2025 Auckland Pride Festival will close with Waimahara at Myers Park, a reimagined gathering that shifts the traditional Pride March and Pride Party to an activation that reflects on the strength within our communities and galvanises our shared vision of queer liberation and social justice.

Beginning with a rally in Aotea Square Grass Terraces, attendees will march to Myers Park through the public art installation Waimahara by Graham Tipene (Ngāti Whātua, Ngāti Kahu, Ngāti Hine, Ngāti Hauā, Ngāti Manu) for a day of connection, learning, and organising around shared advocacy goals.

Strengthening our collective response to regressive policies and rhetoric that threaten our rights has long formed Pride's purpose, therefore our closing event, is our opportunity to bring communities together in a time where collective, organised actions are vital, perhaps more than ever.

Party and Protest | Photo exhibition

When: Pavilion Panels on Te Ara Tahuhu and Galway Street

Where: February 1st until the second week of March

Britomart and Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland Museum are celebrating Pride with a photographic survey of queer activism

For Auckland Pride 2025, you can enjoy Party & Protest, a free exhibition of photographs from the museum's archives that look back on two pivotal decades of queer activism in the city.

The photographs that make up the exhibition came from two tranches of photographs in the museum's archives: Gil Hanly's tireless documentation of protest actions in the 1980s, particularly those related to the battle for Homosexual Law Reform, as well as the parades of the 1990s and early 2000s; and Becky Nunes's photographs of early Hero parties, the groundbreaking statements of queer pride held amid the wreckage of the AIDs crisis in the early 1990s.

With so much to do, the hardest part will be choosing which one to head to first!
