Battling Wilding Conifers: A Mission To Preserve New Zealand's Iconic Landscapes

"Controlling wilding pines could save billions in resources," Hoggard says.

Biosecurity Minister Andrew Hoggard recently journeyed to Marlborough to address the pressing issue of wilding conifers threatening biodiversity, farm production, irrigation supply and electricity generation.

Talking to REX Set-Up Producer Jo Grigg, Hoggard emphasised the importance of controlling these invasive trees to protect iconic landscapes like Molesworth Station

Despite high winds thwarting a planned visit to the infested Branch-Leathem, he says he gained valuable insights from the Wilding Summit, into the challenges posed by these conifers and the job at hand.

Hoggard also called for public feedback through the Biosecurity Consultation.
