November may be the second to last month of the year, but it also marks the start of what some would say is a 'rite of passage' for men in Aotearoa - Movember.
Created and organised by the Movember Charity, it has started a movement where men all around the country shave down on the 1st and grow out whatever type of Moustache or "Mo" they can over the month. All in support of fundraising and bringing awareness to men's health, whether it be mental health or physical health.
My "Why" for getting involved this year is because there is a serious problem where men are pressured by society into thinking being vulnerable is showing weakness. Men should feel okay and safe talking about their feelings and being vulnerable.
You are no less of a man for talking. No matter the stereotypes.
This year has been a rollercoaster for me after a personal experience resulted in my mental health being the worst it has been in my whole life. But through my healing journey, thanks to friends, family and myself, I have achieved many goals I had set to accomplish in both my mental health and other ambitions.
So I am shaving down (which is something I have not done for a long time) and growing out a Mo for this very reason, and to fundraise for such an important cause.
And yes, of course, I will take photos every day for a timelapse video for your enjoyment at the end of the month!
If you wish to help and support, you can donate to my fundraiser page here.
Any donations big or small are much appreciated!
