Cassie Henderson just proved once again that she’s one of the kindest in Kiwi music, sharing an emotional moment with a young fan that’s sure to last a lifetime.
In an Instagram post, Cassie revealed the heartwarming story behind the memory.
“I have been wanting to share this story for a while, this is Evie 💛,” Cassie wrote in an Instagram post.
Evie had written Cassie a heartfelt letter, sharing her dream of becoming a singer and how she sometimes faces bullying because of it.
Before her recent Christchurch show - Cassie’s hometown - Evie’s letter found its way to her backstage. Having experienced similar struggles at Evie’s age, Cassie was determined to make the night unforgettable.
“As you can imagine this was quite an emotional moment,” Cassie wrote.
She invited Evie onstage to perform a song together, creating a memory that Cassie says she’ll “cherish forever”.
In the clip, Cassie encouraged Evie to take in the moment: “I want you to take a big look out into that crowd, and I want you to see all of their smiling faces, and how much they’re clapping for you right now.”
The duo then sang the final line of Cassie’s song ‘Complacent’, with the crowd erupting into cheers for Evie’s beautiful voice.
“You’re wonderful, don’t let anyone tell you anything else, okay?” Cassie said.
“Being passionate is important, and it should be treasured and nurtured. If you have a dream, as long as you keep working hard and believing in it, the rest will follow,” she reminded everyone at the end of her post.
Fans flooded the comments with encouragement for Evie and praise for Cassie’s support.
“Seeing this in person was so very emotional, we love you, Evie ❤️ Cassie, you are the absolute sweetest 🫶🏻,” one fan wrote.
Another added, “Evie’s voice was amazing - people can be so mean ❤️.”
