We can't believe we're writing this, but it's true - our beloved Sharyn 'Shazdog' Casey is leaving The Edge Afternoons.
Sharyn announced the news at the start of the show today, explaining she's stepping back from the mic amidst a rollercoaster of emotions:
"I’ve had the time of my life, all my dreams came true and then some," she said of her time at The Edge, which began back in 2006.
"I’m sad, I’m happy, I’m excited, I’m grateful, I’m scared but I really miss my kids and husband.
"I want a break from mining my life for content constantly, I want to yell on the sidelines of sports games I’m usually at work during," she continued.
"I’m frothing on learning new things and figuring out who I am outside of the studio I’ve spent my whole adult life in."
Thank gawd, it won't be the last we see of Auntie Shaz, as she'll be staying part of the rova whānau working on some "super fun projects" in 2025. Plus, of course, you can catch her as the host of the 'Better Me (Hopefully)' podcast.
"As my son Tyson said when I told him: 'I think that’s gonna be much more better'."
In July, Sharyn celebrated 18 years at The Edge, saying she'd spent the better part of the last two decades "living the bloody dream".
"I feel lucky I’ve made life long friends, found my husband, never had a co-host I’m not still friends with which says a lot because it can be like a relationship so you have your ups and downs, but I’m appreciative of every one of them, will always have their backs & love them lots," she wrote on Instagram at the time.
Thanks for letting me in your ear holes, putting up with me and growing with me over the last 18 years. It’s been a ride!!!
It sure has!
Shaz, The Edge fam is going to miss you beyond belief, and we can't thank you enough for all the epic stuff you've done over the years, bringing the lols, vulnerability and creativity to the station every day.
Stay tuned to hear more about what's next for Sharyn and how The Edge Afternoons with Steph and Sean will look next year!
