Robbie Williams's life story is coming to the big screen, and fans are trying to decide how they feel about the trailer. In a bold twist, the singer will be played by a CGI monkey.
The naughty pop star explains at the start of the trailer for ‘Better Man’ that he decided to use an ape to portray him as he’s “always felt a little less evolved”. The CGI primate is seen performing musical numbers and causing havoc, which is true to Robbie's VERY colourful reputation.
The movie is directed by Australian Michael Gracey, who previously directed the successful musical ‘The Greatest Showman’, which starred both Hugh Jackman and Zendaya and was a giant box office hit worldwide.
Some fans couldn’t contain their excitement for the release with one commenting “I’ll be there no matter what.” Another agreed saying “This looks ridiculously fun”.
Movie-goers who saw the biopic early at The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) raved about it, with one fan commenting “It is beyond phenomenal.” Another person agreed: “This movie was so much fun”.
The biopic is doing well amongst critics, too - it’s already got a whopping 86% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Not everyone was impressed, with one fan asking “I’m extremely confused, what is this?”
Another took a jab at the trailer saying “This looks stupid if I’m honest.”
The movie is set to come out on Boxing Day here in NZ, and is a far cry from other biopics about singers done in the past.
It’s safe to say we’ll be seated for this one. Although, it’s unfortunate we won’t get to see Robbie Williams himself on the big screen. A loss for women everywhere.
