Uber Health has launched a new feature to help ease transportation challenges for caregivers in New Zealand.
It will allow more than a million Kiwis who take on care giving roles to book rides for those they care for, with the relief of tracking, paying and staying in communication during the trip.
According to Carers NZ, over 70% of caregivers report experiencing high levels of stress.
Transportation can make things difficult by adding extra logistical, financial, and emotional burdens when arranging rides for medical appointments, social visits, and everyday tasks.
The new Uber Caregiver is aiming to make lives easier by booking rides on behalf of care recipients, but be assured the their safety is still top priority with tool like, ride tracking and a new three-way in-app chat function.
The three-way chat lets caregivers, passengers, and drivers stay connected during the trip.
There’s also the option to book a trip up to 90 days in advance, so plans can be arranged well ahead of time.
Carers NZ Chief Executive Officer Laurie Hilsgen says: “Family carers juggle many things, including employment, and being able to organise safe, reliable transport is a big issue in New Zealand.”
"Caregivers are the unsung heroes of New Zealand, and they face significant challenges in managing their responsibilities," adds Emma Foley, Managing Director of Uber Australia and New Zealand.
Hopefully this new addition might be able to make juggling all the responsibilities a little easier for everyone.
