The Beatles' Ringo Starr reveals he's never eaten the world's most popular food

Even though he appeared in a commercial for it...

Ringo Starr has stunned fans by admitting he's never tried pizza before.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday night, host Jimmy asked the music icon to clear up some long-standing rumours about himself, starting with the claim that he had never eaten a slice of pizza.

"I've never had a pizza... or a curry," he declared, as the audience fell silent.

"I'm allergic to several items," the drummer continued. "With pizza, you don't know what you're putting in it half the time. Or the curry. So, I'm pretty strict with myself since it makes me ill immediately."

In response, Jimmy joked, "I used to think you had the greatest life, and now I realise mine is better."

"Yours is better because you've had a pizza," the 84-year-old smiled.

The revelation is particularly surprising as Ringo appeared in an advertising campaign for Pizza Hut back in 1995.

However, he is never actually seen biting into the stuffed-crust pizza in the commercial.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Ringo discussed his appearance at Paul McCartney's concert in London in December, where they performed 1968 song 'Helter Skelter' together.

And while the reunion with his Beatles bandmate was a surprise to concertgoers, the musician had plenty of time to prepare.

"It was so surprising he asked me a month ago," he laughed. "It's always still great to play with him. And you know what's also great, the audience love it. They just love to see the two of us together. They still love it."

Ringo is currently promoting his new country music album, 'Look Up'.
