Moana 2 set to be released in English and Te reo Māori on the very same day

Exciting news this morning!

Not only has Walt Disney announced the release date of the highly anticipated Moana 2, but they along with Matewa Media have announced that Moana 2 Reo Māori will also be released on the very same day, Thursday, November 28th.

This will mark the first time in history that Walt Disney Animation Studios has released the original voice cast version with the Indigenous language version simultaneously in cinemas across Aotearoa.

Moana 2 Reo Māori brings back the original cast and crew from Moana Reo Māori. This has been locally produced in Aotearoa by Matewa Media and they aim to 'honour the legacy of those who fought tirelessly for the survival of our language'.

“Starting with the first film, we now steer te reo Māori toward a new future in global entertainment. Our work aims to honour the legacy of those who fought tirelessly for the survival of our language", said Tweedie Waititi, Producer & Director of Moana 2 Reo Māori.

Producers Chelsea Winstanley and Mia Henry-Teirney said, “This is the full-circle moment we've been working toward—our dream to see te reo Māori normalized on cinema screens alongside English. We're thrilled that Walt Disney Animation Studios recognizes the importance of making te reo Māori visible and accessible in cinemas, at home, and everywhere."

Moana 2 reunites Moana and Maui for a 'new voyage' three years later after receiving an unexpected call from her ancestors. This time Pua (pig) joins them too and don't worry Hei Hei (rooster) is still part of the crew.
