Auckland Zoo is thrilled to announce the arrival of a new flamingo chick, the first to hatch this breeding season.
The chick hatched just before the Zoo Lates on February 16 making an exciting entrance into the world.
The chick's parents, Richard and Sullivan, have proven to be amazing parents incubating the egg very diligently even through a flood and cyclone.
This is the third year that the pair has successfully hatched chicks, with the previous ones requiring assistance from the zookeepers in incubating the eggs.
Visitors can catch a glimpse of the adorable chick during the flamingo keeper talks at noon each day, with an extra 6 pm session at Zoo Lates.
The zookeepers will also provide interesting insights into the chick's development and the lives of flamingos in general.
Auckland Zoo is also planning to launch a conservation fundraiser to support the flamingo chick and its family.
With this new addition to the flock, the flamboyance of flamingos at Auckland Zoo has become even more vibrant and exciting.
