The 'Make It Click' anthem of our childhoods is making a comeback this summer, and it’s got a festie season twist.
Kiwi DJ Jess Rhodes has taken on McDonald’s classic road safety tune to remind us to wear our seatbelts.
This time, though, it’s not just about making it click once… but twice. They’re calling on us to buckle up and activate ‘do not disturb’ on our devices to stay focused behind the wheel.
And how do you get us Gen Zers to actually listen? Chuck in some D’n’B, obvs.
Jess is set to debut the track live during her set at Rhythm and Vines in Gisborne on New Year’s Eve.
“I’m thrilled to remix this classic,” says Jess. “It’s such an iconic piece of Kiwi culture, and I hope it becomes the road trip anthem of the summer, reminding everyone to buckle up and focus while driving.”
Jess will also document her Rhodes to Rhythm journey, dropping road safety tips and grabbing Macca’s along the way - same, sis, that New Year’s feed is calling our names already.
According to NZ Transport Agency: "About 90 people are killed every year on New Zealand roads because they weren’t wearing a seatbelt."
“The key message of ‘Make It Click’ is just as important today as it was 21 years ago, says Luke Rive, McDonald’s Director of Marketing.
Too many lives are still being lost by not wearing your seatbelt or distracted driving.
"But by giving this classic track a makeover, we hope to reach a new generation of kiwis in a fun and meaningful way,” he adds.
This remix is as catchy as our 2003 OG, so you bet it’s gonna be stuck in our heads all summer long.
More Kiwi DJs will also join the movement, putting their own spin on the track.
We can’t wait to vibe to Ronald McDonald’s vocals — a true legend is about to takeover the DnB scene.
