A Kiwi golfer has clutched up and putted himself to victory, as well as a sweet, sweet payday baby.
Danny Lee won the latest round of LIV Golf by tapping the ball in from way out, hitting the flag pole and sinking that bad boy. Lee took home a juicy US$4 million (NZ$6.3 million) for his efforts. Wish there was that kind of money in Wii Golf, I'd be swimming in cash right now for my efforts in lockdown.
"I am speechless right now," Danny said after celebrating the putt of dreams. "Honestly, I wasn't even looking at the individual score all day...I was just looking at how our team was going."
It's his first victory in the last eight years, and the money he's taking home is more than he's made from his last four PGA efforts combined. Seeing the ball go in not only gave him all that moolah and his name in the history books, but also something invaluable, a little thing called self-belief #inspiring.
"This individual victory means a lot, I haven't won since 2015 and I felt like winning's just not my thing, but today changed that...it's just good to see I'm capable of playing some good golf again," he shared.
LIV Golf has been plagued with controversy since day dot, but Lee told Golf Digest he reckons it's great for the sport (and golfers' wallets).
"LIV is the next best thing to have happened to golf. Look at how much [money] we are playing for every week all around the world now," he said.
"Every tour is getting better players, more money. As a player, you just can't complain right now."
Well, I'm off to buy a mug and some balls to work on my short game. As they say, "drive for show, putt for dough".
