Queen's Service Medal Recipient Reflects on Farming + Conservation Journey

"Farming and the rural scene has been my life," O'Donnell says.

Gavin O'Donnell was awarded the Queen's Service Medal for services to the rural community and conservation as part of the 2024 New Year's Honours list earlier in the year.

Although he says he is officially retired from farming, O'Donnell explains to Dom the number of environmental projects he is still involved in.

He reflects on his farming journey, how growing up on a mixed farm in Canterbury inspired a life-long career in agriculture and farming

O'Donnell also emphasises the importance of balancing agricultural productivity with environmental sustainability, stressing the need for cooperation between farmers and policymakers.
