20 kilometres west of Gisborne on the Waimata River, you will find Te Matai Station where nine-time New Zealand dog trial representative Merv Utting farms Romney Ewes and breeding cows.
Utting compares the relentless weather at Tamatai Station to the devastating Bola floods of 1988, calling it the worst year he can remember, particularly when it comes to shearing his ewes.
He reflects on his dog trialling achievements over the years, highlighting stand-out dogs such as Pat and Rose and the great memories he has from those competitions.
Utting also touches on his induction as a legend of sport in Tairawhiti a few years ago and what that recognition meant to him and his family.
