Dylan Walker is leaving the One New Zealand Warriors immediately and has already been signed to another team.
After joining at the start of the 2023 season, the Warriors confirmed Walker "has been granted an early release on compassionate grounds to return to Australia immediately."
"We were keen for Dylan to stay until the end of the season, but we appreciate why he needs to return to Sydney," said One New Zealand Warriors CEO Cameron George.
"We’ve really enjoyed having him at our club, and he has given us tremendous service. He goes with our support and best wishes."
Despite being named in this week's team list, Walker played his 46th and final game for the Warriors in Friday night’s 14-6 win over the Roosters at Go Media Stadium.
He’ll certainly be leaving a legacy behind.
It has since been confirmed Walker has signed with the Parramatta Eels for when he returns to Australia.
The team believe he will be "bringing a wealth of experience and versatility to the team". Parramatta Eels General Manager of Football Mark O'Neill said: "We’re excited to have a player of Dylan’s caliber join the Eels. Dylan is such a tough competitor who will suit our style of football and he will provide class and experience to our team.”
Fans have been reacting to the Warriors' farewell post on Instagram, with one writing: "That sux. He brings big energy at 14. Wish him well, he did a great job for us."
"Huge loss! Going to be hard to fill the void that Walks will leave," said another. "But it’s a great opportunity for someone else to step up. All the best Walks, and thank you!"
A third added: "All the best, mate. Thank you for your service to the Warriors - great player, will be missed."
As the fans attest, he was a great asset to the team and will be missed.
