LISTEN: Kanoa Lloyd and Tom Robinson on their move to yoga teaching

For the former TV presenter and ex-rugby player, two very different career paths have ended up in the same place.

Catch the latest episode of The House of Wellness with Chemist Warehouse on The Breeze as Mel is joined by former TV and radio presenter now turned yoga teacher, Kanoa Lloyd, former Blues rugby player also turned yoga teacher Tom Robinson, Healtheries Naturopath Bridget Clare and resident GP Dr. John Cameron.

Featured Guest: Kanoa Lloyd

Kanoa Lloyd reflects on the challenges and unexpected opportunities following her transition from media personality to yoga teacher.

After the abrupt cancellation of The Project, Kanoa found herself at a crossroad that she describes as ‘a powerful moment’. Initially faced with a stressful work-life balance and health concerns, Kanoa made the decision to pursue yoga teacher training.

Although she had practiced yoga privately for years, the training deepened her connection to the practice and inspired her to share it with others.

Kanoa also shares her holistic approach to wellness, which integrates mindfulness and breathing techniques into daily life. She discusses how yoga for her, is about finding time to tune into the body and mind, and encourages people to try classes without pressure or expectation.

Featured Guest: Tom Robinson

Former Northland, Blues and Japan Toyota Verblitz rugby player Tom Robinson shocked many when he announced his retirement at just 30 years old.

Although it seemed sudden to fans, Tom had been grappling with anxiety related to concussions throughout his career. His fear of the uncertainty surrounding head injuries led him to reconsider his future in rugby.

After taking time off in Japan, he focused on yoga, meditation and journaling, which helped him manage his mental health.

Now, he has new found peace and a passion for teaching yoga. He shares his journey and lessons, helping others to discover joy, inner peace, mindfulness and balance.

Resident GP: Dr. John Cameron

This week Dr. John spoke about concussions, emphasising their seriousness especially in sports.

Dr John. explains how concussions are often misunderstood, with many people assuming that losing consciousness is a key indicator. He says that diagnosing a concussion relies on functional tests, such as asking a person simple questions to check their memory and awareness.

He provides advice on management of and rehabilitation from concussions and underscores the importance of taking head injuries seriously to ensure a proper recovery process.
