Australasia's number one motorsport event kicks off in NZ this weekend and what better way to get in the mood for racing than an in-depth look at how the drivers are prepping?
For the first time, the Supercars Championship will take place in Taupo. With plenty of storylines heading into the weekend and a handful of Kiwis ready to burn rubber, Supercars released a two-part 'Road To Taupo' documentary to get fans in the mood.
Both episodes cover the New Zealanders racing in the competition - Andre Heimgartner, Jaxon Evans, Richie Stanaway, Matt Payne and Ryan Wood - and the second one even features George FM (for like ten seconds but we're counting it).
I don't know what it is about motorsports that make the best BTS docos (shoutout 'Drive To Survive') but it's a real thing and this Supercars one is no different.
The snippet of us comes from when rookie Ryan Wood had a chat with George Breakfast earlier this year. It turns out NZ racing legend Greg Murphy has mentored him.
"Murph actually has a lot to do with me, he's my manager," said Wood. "He was like 'come on mate, I'll take you under my wing'."
General Lee had to ask if he'd had the chance to drive Murphy's sick as Dodge Charger.
"It's funny you say that," Wood replied. "There have been a few times where I've been like 'come on, give us a go'. And I'm really good mates with both of his sons as well and spent a lot of time at their family home. And he still hasn't let me do it."
Well Ryan mate, I'm sure if you finish the race a champion this weekend, Murphy will let you gun it in his precious car.
