If you hold in your farts they could come out your mouth - study

You have been warned.

We've all been in a situation where letting a fart lose would be less than ideal, but according to research, it's gonna come out out one hole or another.

According to diet and nutrition expert Professor Clare Collins from the University of Newcastle, holding in a fart cause 'abdominal distention' which causes some of that gas to be absorbed and exhaled through your breath.

NHS surgeon Dr Karan Rajan, yarned on a recent podcast about the process: "When you hold in a fart there's a percentage of that fart vapour which will defuse through the walls of the colon, through the walls of the intestine and eventually it will go to your bloodstream."

All the blood circulates and eventually it goes to the lungs where the waste products are then exhaled out.

It doesn't mean a fart will come roaring up your throat, but that's not exactly a consolation. Holding in your farts can cause other issues, too.

"Holding on too long means the build-up of intestinal gas will eventually escape via an uncontrollable fart," said Collins.

If there's too much pressure applied from holding it in, you could develop 'diverticulitis', which causes small pouches on your gut lining, that then become inflamed.

Science says - just let it bloody rip. One way or another...
