From the outside, it looks like an unlikely partnership. Furniture retailer, Big Save Furniture, has partnered with family-owned beef genetics business, Rissington Cattle Company.
But as Jeremy Absolom explains, the collaboration makes sense. Big Save Furniture is involved in wool production and getting natural wool fibres into their home furnishings while Rissington Cattle Company deals with farmers growing both beef and wool.
"It really came about as they looked to put more natural fibres into their furniture business... we got talking about farming and setting up farms.obviously if you're going to farm sheep, you typically farm beef as well and that got us talking".
He explains how Big Save Furniture's investment in agriculture has led to shorter supply chains and potentially, better returns for producers. Rissignton's expertise in cattle genomics is helping ensure that the Big Save cattle herds have top genetics.
