New Trade Deal Opens UAE Market For NZ Red Meat Amid Local Industry Challenges

"The removal of the tariffs saves $750,000, and there's significant upside in an oil-rich country like the UAE," Guy highlights.

The new trade agreement between New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is good news for the red meat sector, Meat Industry Association Chair Nathan Guy tells Dom.

He explains how this deal is expected to boost financial gains and open new market opportunities for New Zealand's red meat sector.

Guy also touches on the industry's challenges, including the proposed closure of the Smithfield plant in Timaru, which could result in 600 job losses, a significant blow to the local community and industries.
