Fans are not happy with the choice of actress for Amy Winehouse's biopic

Fans are going 'no, no, no...'

It seems to be that every legendary musician is getting a biopic made of them. And while some films like Elton John's 'Rocketman', or Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' get great support from the stars, family and fans alike - the same cannot be said about the upcoming Amy Winehouse biopic.

Amy Winehouse was a talented British singer and songwriter who tragically died at the young age of 27 in 2011. A multiple Grammy award winner, she was known for her distinct soulful and jazzy voice, and her equally iconic signature beehive hairstyle paired with sharp black winged eyeliner.

So while it's easy to copy the "look" of Amy Winehouse, nailing that resemblance is something else. And fans are not happy with the first glimpses they've seen of British actress Marisa Abela, transformed as the late singer during filming for the Amy Winehouse biopic 'Back To Black'.

While walking around London's Soho this week, fans commented Marisa's physical portrayal of Amy looked "cheap", "tiny" and "doll-like" - a stark difference from Amy's sharp and strong features.

"Is that supposed to be Amy???" asked one Twitter user. Another dubbed the actress as "Shein Amy" and "Amy from Ali Express".

Another commented that Lady Gaga would be a better fit for the role, while one fan suggested former Fifth Harmony member Lauren Jauregui looks more identical to the 'Rehab' singer.

It doesn't help that passionate fans of Amy also don't support the biopic in general, with many accusing Amy's family of still exploiting her fame past her death.

Amy Winehouse's estate signed the deal for the biopic back in 2018, with 'Fifty Shades of Grey' director Sam Taylor-Johnson brought on for the project.

This will be one of the biggest film roles actress Marisa Abela has taken on, previously starring in the TV series 'Industry', and is said to appear in the upcoming 'Barbie' movie set for release this July.
