After two absolute rollercoaster semi-finals which saw Spain emerge victorious over world number three Sweden and European Championship winners England knock out co-hosts Australia, this Sunday's Grand Final is set to be the highlight of a weekend full of sport.
Although there has been some controversy surrounding La Roja, namely their supposed dismissal of Palmerston North, Hamish 'The Hitman' McKay is backing the Spanish to end England's fairytale run.
"England were the European champions obviously so probably the favourites but they have five or six players away from the team," he said.
Commenting on the fact that the semi-final between England and Australia drew the highest-ever sporting audience in Australia ever, Dominic 'The Dominator' George said it exemplifies how entertaining this tournament has been.
"Consider that nation, which is a brilliant sporting nation and one where they overwhelmingly adore sport and their national teams, that is an extraordinary stat," he told McKay.
"You just have to ponder on that for a minute and think what that actually means."
To put it in perspective that games' viewership has surpassed The Ashes, the NRL, Super Rugby, the Rugby World Cup, AFL, the Olympics and many, many more sporting events.
Shane Van Gisbergen's move from Supercars to join NASCAR was confirmed earlier this week which McKay believes is the best next step for his career.
"I think it's the place for him to be.
"It (NASCAR) is right up there, globally respected, I just think it's a no-brainer."
The All Blacks jet off to Europe on Friday ahead of their World Cup curtain-raiser against South Africa at Twickenham next weekend.
Both McKay and George shared distaste at the reaction of some people seeming to celebrate the ruling out of French superstar first-five Romain Ntamack ahead of the tournament.
"When I read a headline saying 'All Blacks boosted by French loss..' I thought if we are having to be boosted by the French losing one of their great players then that's a sad day," McKay said.
"To have that narrowminded, little view, it's an indictment really isn't it?" George agreed.
McKay and George both commented on the good memories they have of New Zealand's NPC rugby competition, but are confused as to why it seems to have gone downhill in recent years.
"It's terribly marketed, it's just an afterthought," McKay said.
NZ Rugby CEO Mark Robinson came out stating that the current NPC model is not 'fit for purpose' which would suggest that something is going to be done to change it, and George hopes that is the case.
"They've made it so convoluted anyway where you're split into two divisions but then there are cross-over games.rugby is a complicated game enough and then you go an complicate it more with complicated competition rules," he said.
"Could you make it any more difficult for the average punter to comprehend?"
The World Track and Field Championships are in Budapest over the next week where high jumper Hamish Kerr, Pole Vaulter Eliza McCartney, Sprinter Zoe Hobbs and a number of other Kiwi athletes will compete.
Speaking on the impressive Kiwi cohort, McKay told George the World Athletics Champs deserve more coverage than they currently get in Aotearoa.
"It should be something that I hope gets due daily coverage in mainstream New Zealand media," McKay said.
