Surviving The Drought: Jim Burrows' Winning Strategies + Future Plans

"Getting that fodder beet in early really saved our bacon," Burrows remarks.

Jim Burrows from Glen Lake Station has been struggling with dry weather in North Canterbury for most of 2024 but has managed to make some decisive adaptations to scrape through relatively unscathed all things considered.

The winner of the Mint Lamb competition earlier in the year, Burrows credits early planting of fodder beet and strategic livestock decisions for his farm's resilience.

Despite the harsh conditions, he tells Dom how he managed to keep his ewes in good condition and achieve promising lamb survival rates.

Looking ahead, Burrows is optimistic about the future and hints at entering the Mint Lamb competition again.
