Ryegrass Breakthrough: Trials Offer Huge Boost For NZ Farmers

"Yield is king," he states, emphasising the productivity gains farmers can achieve with updated seeds.

Dr Matthew Deighton, a ryegrass expert from the Plant & Breeders Association, dives into the 2024 National Forage Variety Trials.

He explains how these trials, a 33-year-long endeavour, have highlighted the impressive role of ryegrass in boosting New Zealand's agriculture, contributing tens of billions to export revenue.

Dr Deighton urges farmers to tap into this resource, as the trials reveal an 18% increase in annual yield when using modern ryegrass cultivars over outdated ones.

With detailed data available on the PBRA website, Dr Deighton encourages farmers to leverage these insights for better decision-making and increased farm productivity.
