NZ's Sheep Meat Industry: Turning Challenges Into Opportunities

"If we can use this challenging time to look inward and see what changes could be made, we can help smooth out future volatility," Corkran explains.

New Zealand's sheep meat sector faces significant challenges, but according to Rabobank's new report, 'Watering the Green Shoots in New Zealand Sheep Meat', there are also substantial opportunities.

Senior Animal Proteins Analyst Jen Corkran highlights the need for targeting local consumers and diversifying exports to stabilise the industry's cycles.

She discusses potential efficiency gains through technology and genetics, as well as the idea of collaborating with Australia to market sheep meat in the US.

Despite potential initial resistance, Corkran emphasises the mutual benefits and cost savings.
